What is Summers.a.l.t.?
Summers.a.l.t. is a summer literacy program for students who will be entering K-3rd grade in the fall of the following school year. For students who will be entering Kindergarten, it is a jumpstart to be prepared for Kindergarten. For those entering, 1st - 3rd grade, the focus is on students who are struggling with reading. Summers.a.l.t. classes are taught by certified teachers with a class size of no more than 12-14 students.
When is Summers.a.l.t.?
Summers.a.l.t. in Tupelo meets during the month of June for 4 weeks, Monday-Thursday, from 8:30 am-11:45 am. each day. Children are enrolled for the entire month. . The specific dates for 2025 will be:
June 2-5 Monday-Thursday
June 9-12 Monday-Thursday
June 16-19. Monday-Thursday
June 23-27** Monday-Friday
**This last Friday is a fun day for the children.

Who is eligible to attend Summers.a.l.t.?
Students who are struggling with reading and will be entering 1st-3rd grade in the next school year.
OR
Students who will be entering Kindergarten in the next school year.
**First priority is given to students in the Tupelo Public School System. Students also must not miss more than 4 days in the month of June.
How do I enroll my child in Summers.a.l.t.?
Summers.a.l.t. is for students who are below their grade level in reading. If your child attends Tupelo Public Schools and is below their grade level in reading, ask your counselor if your child is eligible for an application. If you are not in Tupelo Public Schools, e-mail merissa@theorchard.net, to see if any spots are available.

We are excited that you are interested in serving as a volunteer. SummerSALT meets every Monday-Thursday during the month of June from 8:30-11:45 AM each day. Applications will be available in the Tupelo public schools in March. Ask your school counselor for a referral.
